Preparing For Your Session

You’ve booked your session, you’re excited….but now what? Here are some tips to help you prepare for your senior portrait experience.

Arrive early or on time to your appointment – being late will cut into your camera time. The same applies to me if I’m traveling to you!

Get Organized

Let’s make the most out of your time. Your session comes with unlimited outfit changes, so we will work together to decide an outfit flow that is the most efficient, with a realistic number of changes. Group your outfits and accessories together on hangers – place jewelry in zip plastic bags and hooked to the hangers.

Great makeup provides a foundation for amazing portraits. Whether you apply it yourself or have it professionally applied, makeup should merely enhance your natural beauty, not change who you are. Makeup for photos should be applied slightly heavier than you would for everyday wear. I have a makeup kit and am happy to help with touchups as needed during your session.

Repeat after me – it’s okay to have a zit on the day of your pictures. It happens! I retouch your images before ordering. Finger and Toenails If you paint your nails, make sure they are well done before your session. Chipped polish is distracting, as are bright colors. Neutral is typically better.

Tan Lines Please do your best to avoid a lot of undesireable tan lines with your outfits. If this is not possible sunless tanner may help even the lines out. If that doesn’t work, chat with me about retouching options.

You know what you like! Style your hair in a way that makes you happy. If you want to do a hairstyle change during your session, practice it prior to the session or bring a friend who can help. During your session I will help watch for flyaways and disobedient hairs.

Friends and Parents

You are welcome to bring a friend or parent with you; however, if you feel they may be a distraction or make you self-conscious, it may be best to meet up with them after your session. Everyone is a little self-conscious at first…it gets better! We can also get a few images of you with your friend or parents during your session.

If you are sick or if the weather isn’t cooperating, we can reschedule. Cloudy days make for great images, and sometimes a little rain can be fun too! We will chat to determine an alternate plan, if necessary.

If desired, braces can be removed on ordered images for a retouching fee. Otherwise, don’t worry about them! A natural smile with braces will beat the awkward smile of trying to hide them any day.

Before your session, try each outfit on with the appropriate undergarments to make sure everything fits how you like. If you need a strapless bra for a shirt, make sure you pack it. Sometimes tucking straps just isn’t enough. Try to find coordinating colors of undergarments to minimize distracting lines and peeking straps.
